Facing History and Ourselves’s mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. I was tasked with designing and producing three social studies units for Facing History, in partnership with Chicago Public Schools. These units have been wildly successful and are currently in their second printing. Each unit is centered on a case study: the desegregation of Central High in Little Rock, the Reconstruction Era, and the Holocaust. This project required a level of both legibility as well as being appealing and helpful to high school students. The resulting publication explored difficult subjects in a clear and instructive manner.

Working with Leila is a great pleasure. She’s a highly creative, organized, and clear-thinking designer who is always conscious of the delicate balance between how a design looks and how a design works.

Leila has the kind of smarts that yield efficient work, great energy to the team, and beautiful results. It is truly a joy to work with her.

Leila is a very talented graphic designer. She knows how to balance aesthetic concerns and the needs of the client. The design process was a true collaboration and uncommonly successful. I also appreciated her sense of humor and enthusiasm.
